Iridis3 Supercomputer officially launched

The new Southampton Supercomputer Iridis3 was official started on 8 February 2010.
Vice Chanceller Prof Don Nutbeam pressed the GO button during the ceremony, and hundreds of jobs where started simultaneously to solve computational problems on the machine's more than 8000 processing cores.
A number of presentations explained the use of this state-of-the-art facility in wide ranging fields of research, spanning across the University's faculties.
