I am a research fellow in the Natural Systems group at the University of Southampton. My research has two complementary aims: first, to develop biologically inspired algorithms for combinatorial problem solving; and second, to explore the implications of analogous processes for understanding biological organisation. In particular, I am interested in the impact of structured environments, and how structure such as modularity can be exploited by evolutionary processes. Simulation modelling is integral to answering questions on both sides of my my research.
