Staff whose work involves creating content for the web, may be interested in the “Web 4 All” seminar on Monday 28 June from 10am to 12pm in LT 1015, Building 32.

This presentation will look at the benefits of making the web accessible to all, regardless of whatever their hardware, software, language, culture, geographic location, physical or mental ability.

It will also address WAU: the Web Accessibility and Usability Project which is run in cooperation by iSolutions and the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS).

The project aims to ensure that wider audiences are met by complying with the best standards on Web Accessibility.

The presentation will be opened by Kamaljit Kerridge-Poonia, the University of Southampton’s Diversity Manager.

Guest speakers will be Dr Mike Wald and Mrs E A. Draffan from ECS.

Dr. Wald leads research into Accessible Technologies in the Learning Societies Lab at ECS and has advised HEFCE, JISC, BECTA and universities on enhancing learning through the use of technologies.

E A Draffan has a strong background as a Speech and Language Therapist and is specialised in Assistive Technology, which is aimed at reducing the barriers people encounter when working with computers.

Finally, Ronise Nepomuceno, the project manager for WAU, will describe how Web Accessibility and Usability will become part of the process of development in Web Applications.
