Mathematica is often viewed as a ‘symbolic calculator’ that can help you out when you’re stuck with a tricky equation or integral. In this talk I’ll try to demonstrate some of its other features such as arbitrary precision arithmetic, advanced graphics, rapid authoring of animations and rule-based functional programming language, that make it a tempting possibility for engineering computation. In particular the similarities and differences to MATLAB will be examined.
