We are pleased to inform you, that the call for student applications for the HERTIE Winter School http://www.fens.org/fens-ibro-schools/2012/schools/read.php?id=5313to be held December 9-16, 2012 in Obergurgl, Austria is open.

Deadline for applications: October 1st, 2012, 24:00 CET

Increased life expectancy comes with an increase of the incidence of brain disorders, resulting in huge social and financial costs. Thus, there is an urgent need to understand the neural mechanisms underlying brain disorders, and to suggest new perspectives on diagnostics and therapeutic intervention.

Several brain disorders (e.g. Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, autism, schizophrenia, sleep disorders, stroke), despite their multiple genetic and physiological preconditions, exhibit altered neuronal activity and, hence, can be described as disorders of brain dynamics. Tools from computational neuroscience can be extended to reveal and understand the neural mechanisms underlying brain function and dysfunction, and even suggest new therapeutic strategies.

This intensive course presents a unique opportunity to initiate a dialog between theoreticians and experimentalists, with the aim to support the development of computational models of brain disorders that can be characterized as dynamic diseases.

To apply, please, follow this link http://www.fens.org/fens-ibro-schools/2012/students/.

Applications must be submitted via the FENS-IBRO website only.
