Invited Lecture by Dr Dirk Gorissen: Data Science, Drones, and Digital Humanitarianism

In this digital age, contributing to society or engaging in development is no longer synonymous with handing out soup or installing water pumps. Running hackathons, doing data dives, labeling tweets, and flying drones have added to the options. However, how useful are they really and will big data actually "solve the worlds biggest issues"? This talk will not attempt to give answers, but rather share experiences from projects across machine learning & data science, unmanned systems, citizen reporting and GIS.

Further information on the lecture can be found here

This invited lecture is supported by an EPSRC Institutional Sponsorship grant covering Data Science activities within the University of Southampton.
