Finite element simulation of a hollow-core Kagome-type optical fibre.

Optical fibres have become ubiquitous in modern technology. They form the backbone of the internet, they monitor railway lines and oil wells, they are used in the manufacture of mobile phones and cars, and they are even on the Moon and on Mars. In this seminar I will discuss some of the many applications of optical fibres and will highlight the challenges in modelling and simulating fibres for real-world applications and for academic research.
