As part of a cross-campus initiative, the Institute for Life Sciences is organising a one day event on "Quantitative Biology", defined broadly to include applications of mathematical/computational/bioinformatic techniques to experimental biology/biomedicine.

Time / Date: 10am-4pm, Thursday 12 July

Location:

Chilworth Manor Hotel, Southampton

Aims of the meeting:

Southampton has considerable potential in this area, and the aim of this meeting is to bring together those interested to explore ways in which quantitative biology can be further developed at Southampton.

Programme: Peter Smith, Director of the IfLS, will introduce the day and a number of Southampton based-speakers will each give a short presentation on their interests and expertise in this area from both experimental and computational perspectives. The aim of these presentations is to stimulate collaboration and there will be extensive time for discussion.

Speakers include:

Rich Edwards – Biology

Tim Elliott & Alistair Bailey – Medicine

Spiros Garbis – Center for proteomics research, Medicine

Steven Gilmour – Statistics

Alan Kimber – Statistics

Rohan Lewis – Medicine

Ben MacArthur – Medicine and Mathematics

Bram Sengers – Engineering
