The University of Southampton's Digital Economy Research Group presents:

The Open Data Revolution and the Web of Linked Data

"Data underlies most of the decisions we take on a daily basis. Our decisions around transport, education, shopping, banking, leisure and every aspect of modern life are informed by data. There are new ways of making this data available that will be as disruptive as the original Web. Governments, local authorities, cities and businesses are all beginning to wake up to the potential of the new Web of Linked Data. This event will give an overview of the policies and technologies that are behind these rapid changes and give practical advice on how to benefit from this Open Data Revolution." Information about the event:

The University of Southampton is at the forefront of the Linked Open Data revolution which has transformed approaches to data provision in the public sector.

The UK Government’s commitment to the publication of public service data will provide the foundation for the Digital Economy, establishing expectations of transparency among citizens, service providers, and government.

This timely two-part event, introduced by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam, will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about Linked Open Data from University experts.

In the morning Professor Nigel Shadbolt, Transparency and Open Data Adviser to the UK Government, will give a strategic briefing on The Open Data Revolution, followed by a Q&A Forum including contributions from Professor Dame Wendy Hall, Hugh Glaser and Dr Nick Gibbins.

After a networking lunch, the afternoon session provides the opportunity to take part in a tutorial on Linked Data and its use in implementing Open Data, again led by University experts, who will give you an in-depth introduction to the subject.

The tutorial will be followed by ‘surgeries’ in which your own particular questions will be answered. This session will provide all the information you need to be able to determine how Open Data can benefit your organisation.
