Robust and accurate simulations of wave propagation in complex media are essential for many important industrial applications ranging from seismic imaging to medical tomography. Challenges in this area include developing robust discretization techniques that are accurate, less sensitive to wave number, and are scalable on state-of-the-art computer architectures. The focus areas of this workshop are:

  • Advanced discretization techniques.
  • Wave propagation in heterogeneous and random media.
  • Subgrid models, multiscale discretization techniques, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Solvers.
  • Applications to geophysics.
  • High-performance computation and visualization tools for large-scale wave simulations.

This workshop will bring together researchers from academia and industry, with the goal of facilitating the exchange of ideas to improve modeling and simulation predictions. The workshop will consist of a number of invited presentations. In addition, we particularly encourage poster presentations from workshop participants.

The workshop will be hosted by the KAUST Global Collaborative Research (GCR) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The location, schedule, and facilities will allow for plenty of interactions among participants. Support will be provided by a mixture of funds from KAUST, GCR, Texas A&M University's (TAMU) Institute for Applied Mathematics and Computational Science (IAMCS), and TAMU's Institute for Scientific Computation (ISC). There is no registration fee. Interested participants should contact KAUSTwaveprop@gmail.com for information and assistance with registration, accommodation, or airport transfer. Information will be provided at http://isc.tamu.edu/events/KAUSTwaveprop and will be updated frequently.

All participants must register for the workshop by visiting the secured site linked above. Once there, select the KAUST workshop icon and then "Add to Cart." Next, select "Checkout" and then provide your email address before selecting to "Continue Unregistered." Fill out all required fields, keeping in mind that accuracy is critical for our records. If you note that you intend to present a poster during the poster session be sure to provide the title of your poster. Then, specify whether you would need financial support (and how much) if it becomes available. Note that financial support is not guaranteed in any way. Finally, "Review Your Order" for accuracy and "Submit Your Order" for processing. You should receive an email confirming your registration.

If you have any additional questions concerning registration, contact KAUSTwaveprop@gmail.com or call Brad Shumbera at 979-458-0448.
