About the Showcase

This new high-profile University event will highlight to a wide audience the outstanding research being carried out by our doctoral students and PhD Plus award holders. Projects drawn from a wide range of subject areas will be showcased through student poster presentations, enabling both participants and guests to discover more about the research being undertaken across the very broad range of research groups and to network with each other.

Poster presentations will be grouped within the following themes (primarily University Strategic Research Group areas):

Ageing and Lifelong Health - Complexity in Real World Contexts - Digital Economy - Energy - Global Uncertainties & Security - Health Technologies - Life Sciences - Living with Environmental Change - Maritime Studies - NanoScience - Neurosciences - Work Futures - Mathematical Modelling

When and Where?

The Showcase will take place on Thursday 31 March, in Garden Court on the Highfield Campus. The programme will be:

15.00 – 16.30 Poster viewing and presentation of research by doctoral students

16.30 – 17.00 Prize-giving

17.00 – 19.00 Buffet and Networking

(Separate break-out space will be available for guests and students to network and talk at greater length.)

Who can participate?

Students: All third and fourth year doctoral students are invited to present a poster. Please see the Call for Abstracts and Abstract Proforma, both downloadable from the right-hand menu, for further information and instructions. Please note that the deadline for receipt of Abstracts is 10 January 2011. By presenting a poster at this event, you will not only gain valuable experience in communicating your research, but you will also be able to meet and network with potential employers from amongst our guests, who will be looking to meet the best of our senior doctoral students.

Guests: The Showcase is an open event, and all members of the University are welcome to attend. We are also pleased to welcome a wide range of guests from outside the University, including industry, local businesses, schools and community associations. If you would like to book a place, please contact rdgc@soton.ac.uk in the first instance.
