The next session of the European School on Magnetism (ESM) series will take place on the French island of Corsica, from February 25th to March 8th, 2013. The European School on Magnetism is now closely associated with the JEMS (Joint European Magnetic Symposia) conferences, the two being held in alternation, and sharing the magnetism.eu portal.
As with previous sessions of ESM, the 2013 School aims at providing a thorough insight into magnetism through a broad series of fundamental lectures, and to address a specific topic of current interest in more detail. The topic chosen for the 2013 School is: “Magnetism for Energy – from fundamentals to materials”. Aspects covered during this school will include: basic concepts, magnetism in matter, thermal effects, magnetic characterization, magnetization processes, materials (hard, soft, magnetocaloric, magnetic shape memory), devices and spintronics.
The School is addressed mainly at PhD students and post-docs, both experimentalists and theoreticians. It will consist of approximately 40 hours of lectures, plus many practicals, open question sessions (5-10h), and free access to a library on magnetism. Attendees will be able to present their own work during poster sessions. More details may be found on the web site: http://magnetism.eu/esm/2013. A few scholarships for waiving registration fees may be granted in very special cases where financial support is clearly an obstacle for attending the school.
The following important dates should be noted:
- Sep 1st: second announcement – Application to attend opens
- Oct 15th: deadline for application to attend
- Nov 1st: notification of acceptance or inclusion on waiting list
- Dec 15th: deadline for payment of fees (non-payment will result in places being offered to candidates on the waiting list)
We would like to ask you to circulate this announcement to all those who may be interested in this School. Further details here
