Acoustic streaming in standing wave field and its effects on cell/particle manipulation

In acoustofluidic manipulation and sorting devices, acoustic streaming flows are typically found in addition to the acoustic radiation forces. In this talk both of these phenomena are introduced. Unusual acoustic streaming patterns that have been experimentally observed are described along with recent work to explain their cause and model them numerically. Finally, the feasibility of controlling acoustic streaming fields in resonant enclosures for some potential applications will be discussed.
