Disease round table discussion
This meeting will be an informal discussion, where we will cover a range of different diseases.
We’d like everyone to choose their "favourite" disease* - this could be a disease you are currently working on, one which you find particularly interesting, or a disease that you would like to work on in future. Come along ready to tell the group about the disease (this doesn’t need to be too detailed – just an overview of the organism (for infectious diseases), the disease it causes and some information about transmission and epidemiology) and the discussion will go from there.
Hopefully this will open up some interesting discussion about different factors influencing disease transmission and distributions, and the types of research approaches that could be used to improve our understanding of a variety of different diseases.
*If you don’t work on diseases, then we would welcome you to introduce something slightly different, perhaps a species, problem, phenomenon of interest (e.g. a specific insect, coral bleaching, crop yields)…anything really where its spatial distribution may be dependent on external factors.

These meetings are intended for everyone with an interest in disease ecology, spatial epidemiology and the types of spatial analysis and modelling methods that may be used in this field. There will also be a lot of relevance in some of our meetings for researchers in similar fields (e.g. species distribution modelling, health geography).
All are welcome to join us – it’s a great opportunity to get together and discuss on-going research, methods, conferences, publications and more in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Feel free to bring your lunch.
