Summary

Since 2010, Software Carpentry has taught basic computing skills to thousands of scientists in two dozen countries. Along the way, we have learned a lot about the gaps and overlooked opportunities in today's systems. This talk will explore several of these, and use them to illustrate how programmers can support some crucial but neglected parts of scientific work.
