LaTeX and BibTeX workflow.

LaTeX is a document preparation system commonly used by scientists, engineers, mathematicians and other professionals. Unlike a traditional “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG) word processor, LaTeX uses a plain text markup language which is compiled into a PDF document using optimal typographical rules. This results in professional-looking documents that are of a different class to the output from a word processor. The numerous customization options in LaTeX allow for the creation of a diversity of documents with precise control over layout and formatting. LaTeX supports bibliographies out of the box, either embedding the references in your document or storing them in an external file (this is the case of BibTeX).

The aim of this workshop is to provide some basic knowledge on LaTeX and show how to effectively manage the bibliography with the BibTeX system.

Important: please bring your own laptop and feel free to use your own LaTeX distribution. In case you don't have LaTeX installed, a virtual machine image will be provided, but in this case you will need to install VirtualBox. The virtual machine can be downloaded from here.
