I have a background in Earth science having completed a BSc in Geological Science and MSc in Engineering Geology; both from the University of Leeds.
After my first spell at university I worked in industry for two years as an Engineering Geologist in Hong Kong. My work focused on natural terrain hazard surveys and rock tunnel mapping.
I am currently in the first year of my PhD. I am broadly interested in the topic of social-ecological systems (SESs). Given that humans have an unprecedented influence on planetary processes, there is concern about what effect this may have on the functioning of the earth system. I use a combination of case studies and simulation to try and gain insight into how SESs respond to gradual change and perturbations.
