PhD student in the School of Medicine, working on the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. My research looks into the epidemiological impact of the conjugate vaccines in a population based study of children under the age of five that carry the bacterium and other respiratory commensals. I have started to utilise whole genome data to help identify reasons for clonal expansion, serotype shifts and switches. To date I have sequenced 527 isolates and will be analysing this data in the coming year. I started off very much a next gen data novice and the learning curve is still very steep!
