This workshop will provide a short introduction to the C++ programming language. C++ is a popular, multi-functional language with a wide range of applications. It has many advantages over the related language C, most significantly its ability to handle object-oriented programming.

The workshop will introduce the basic techniques required to use the language. We shall also present an introduction to object-oriented programming and techniques for combining C++ with other programming languages and visualization tools. The virtual machine on which we recommend that exercises are undertaken can be found at http://www.southampton.ac.uk/~ngcmbits/virtualmachines/ (the third link, named feeg6003_lubuntu_c++.ova); we suggest that participants intending to take part in these exercises bring a laptop with the image already downloaded. Teaching materials for the workshop will be available shortly before the workshop takes place.
