ABSTRACT Performing multiphysics analysis studies for clients who have severe budget constraints & limited time scales of up to a few weeks can be difficult. Continuum Blue, a consultancy group has been performing multiphysics analysis studies for such clients worldwide, over a number of years. From medical applications, such as bone remodelling & the optimisation of acetabular implants, to tracking photon migration in biological tissues, to non-medical applications such as the heat treatment of metal alloys, to insect flight mechanics & subsea cable fatigue. This seminar will look at some of Continuum Blue’s analysis work in the bioengineering sector.
BIOGRAPHY Dr Mark Yeoman, is founder of Continuum Blue, a specialist company involved in technology development using multiphysics analysis techniques. Dr Yeoman has an engineering degree and a PhD in computational modelling and numerical techniques from the University of Cape Town and has over 10 years of experience in the field. His postgraduate studies focused on the design and optimisation of cardiovascular implants using computational techniques and genetic algorithms, this work led to a number of patents filed by Medtronic Inc., some of which have been commercialised. His recent work has focused predominantly on the orthopaedics market, specialising in the design, development and optimisation of orthopaedic implants, such as spinal, hip & finger implants using bone remodelling techniques. Continuum Blue works with a number of medical companies including, Medtronic, British Technology Group (BTG), Abbott, Synthes, B. Braun, NuVasive & Ranier. In addition to his work in the medical field, he is active in other sectors such as aeronautics, oil & gas and sustainable energy, where over time his company, Continuum Blue, has built up an impressive client base, including the likes of BAE Systems & GE.
