CS4 and the Mathematics of Networks Discussion Group co-host three talks which apply network science techniques in varied domains. The talks are:

Mental lexicon growth modelling reveals the multiplexity of the English language -Massimo Stella, Institute for Complex Systems Simulation.

Multiplex networks: an application to social dynamics -Federico Battiston, School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary, University of London

Finding network communities using modularity density -Federico Botta, Centre for Complexity Science, University of Warwick

Background on network mathematics discussion group:

There are many people who use "network science" or "mathematics of networks" in their research within the university. We're aiming to bring together researchers from across many different groups and faculties, with the aim of sharing techniques, experiences, data, problems, and the like in this fast-growing field.

Anyone who uses any kind of mathematical technique to study networks is more than welcome- networks might be social networks, biological, computational, abstract, human, or from any source, and the mathematics might be pure mathematics, statistics, computational, or anything. We don't want to be prescriptive! If you'd like to present your work at some point, we'd certainly encourage this.

In order to facilitate organisation, we've set up an e-mail list: network-maths@lists.soton.ac.uk. To sign up, please fill in this form: http://goo.gl/forms/6d03DmVN87, or e-mail B.M.Parker@soton.ac.uk, and we'll put you on the list.
