I am currently a second year postgraduate research student in the EPSRC CDT in Next Generation Computational Modelling. My supervisor is Professor Hendrik Ulbricht of the Quantum, Light and Matter (QLM) group. I am working on developing real-time feedback control techniques in VHDL to be implemented on an FPGA for use in experimental levitated opto-mechanics. I am currently working on improving our real-time feedback cooling in order to cool the centre of mass motion of an optically levitated nanoparticle.
I have already developed the VHDL code for FIR filters with a python design interface and am working on implementing Kalman filters in real-time with a similar python design interface. In addition to this I am interested in implementing control schemes to prepare the levitated nanoparticle in non-classical states such as entangled, squeezed, superposition and phonon number states.
This research project is funded by the EPSRC.
