I'm a research fellow in the Science and Engineering of Natural Systems group, part of the School of Electronics and Computer Science. I work on computational models of the evolution of social behaviour: I'm particularly interested in communication and social learning. Much of my work has been on modelling the behaviour of group-living animals such as monkeys or rats, but increasingly I am also interested in modelling human social behaviour, e.g., in economic or institutional contexts.
My first degree was in psychology and my doctorate was on the evolution of animal communication, done in the interdisciplinary environment of the University of Sussex's School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences. Before joining the SENSe group I did a postdoc with the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition in Berlin (part of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development) and worked as a research fellow for several years in the School of Computing at the University of Leeds.
